- Adhesion Promoter
- A product used specifically for promoting adhesion on bare plastic parts.
- Bake Cycle
- A term used to indicate a timed session for drying paint in a spray booth oven.
- Base Coat
- This refers to a coloured paint coat applied prior to mid/clear coat application (see ground coat).
- Base Coat Blender
- A conventional basecoat colour without any pigment added. It is used as a transportation devise for the holographic flakes, which are sold in dry flake format. It is also sold with several of the colour changing products (Ecstasy & Illusion).
- Brilliant Colour Dyes
- These are also referred to as candy colours. They are in reality translucent straight colours (non-metallic) used over the top of a variety of ground coats and base coats.
- Colour Shifting
- As the title indicates these products have colour shifting abilities and generally show two different colours depending on what angle you view the finished job from.
- Designer Pearls
- These are very similar to conventional refinish basecoats in as much as they can be used as a standalone colour with or without a ground coat. Superior to an OE manufacturers pearl or mica finish, but not as dramatic as the colour shifting range.
- Double Clear Coat
- Terminology used for a specific type of clearcoat application technique. Following a typical base/clear process (as determined in the TDS) the product is cured and sanded prior to a fresh application of pure activated clearcoat. This generally gives a smoother/flatter finish straight from the gun.
- Flash Off
- A term meaning the amount of time needed between base/clear coats to allow for the evaporation of solvents.
- Flip Colour
- This refers to a special effect base colour that changes colour based on the angle viewed.
- Grabber Coat
- This is an initial dusting of clear coat applied after base coat and prior to a full wet coat application of clearcoat and reduces the possibility of runs by acting as a mechanical grip.
- Ground Coat
- This refers to a coloured paint coat applied prior to mid/clear coat application (see base coat)
- Mid Coat
- A coat applied after the base/ground coat and before clear coat.
- MSDS
- Material Safety Data Sheet.
- Pre-Wipe
- This product is a fast evaporating degreasing solvent used as a final wipe prior to paint application.
- Set Up
- This generally refers to the air cap, fluid tip and needle size of a given spray gun.
- TDS
- Technical Data Sheet.
